2007 -2009 Joshua Initiative
In February of 2007, Jamé & Jennifer and the CLC Board went away for a weekend of prayer, strategy and to hear from God. During that weekend we developed Our Vision and our Wholistic Mission along with a variety of major initiatives. Here are some things that we believe God has called us to do in the Middlesex, Piscataway, Bound Brook, and Plainfield areas.
Who are we?
Christian Life Church is an Assemblies of God affiliated church with a “trans-denominational” emphasis. In other words, we are concerned with the foundations of the faith. We have people from many different traditions that worship with us. For more info on the Assemblies of God, please go to AG.org.
Where are we?
Our church is located at 272 Lincoln Blvd, Middlesex, NJ next to the Pathmark. Here’s a link to get you there.
What is our Spiritual DNA ?
Our Vision
Christian Life Church (CLC) has a vision that --- We are in the process of becoming thinking, doing, and being wholistic followers of Jesus Christ.
Let’s unpack this a bit…What do we mean by “in the process of?” No matter where you are in your faith journey no one has it figured out. Not you, not Jame, not Jennifer, not Bobby, not Rick Warren, or Oprah for that matter. Nobody, really.
Although, there are some people that are further along the path then others, so all that to say that at CLC we don’t have any “Super Christians.” We just have believers that are on our way and working toward understanding our faith in the context of our daily lives. So, when you come don’t think you have to put on a mask; just come and “Be” you and “Be” open to the Holy Spirit.
So what are we in the process of becoming? Well, the easy answer is that we want you to “be whole.” See if your marriage or relationships with your children are solid but your career is out of whack then you’re not living a wholistic life. Or if you’re making a great income but you never have any relationships, again, are you whole?
Being a wholistic follower of Jesus Christ means that you are striving to think, do and be like Jesus. Many us might think that we have our doctrine correct but we could care less about the poor – that’s thinking but not doing. Or we could be a bleeding heart activist but we can’t reason out a Christian worldview – that’s doing but not thinking. Well, if you are thinking and doing like Christ then you can’t help to “Be” like Jesus.
That’s how we came up with “We are in the Process of Thinking, Doing, and Being Wholistic followers of Jesus Christ.”
Our Wholistic Mission
So if that’s what we envision as a church then “how” do we do it? We implement our vision four ways that we call “Our Wholistic Mission.”
• Authentic Relationships – Racially and economically diverse Life Groups.
• Thinking Discipleship – Creating a space for you to ask what, why, and how of the Christian faith.
• Sensitive Spirituality – We are open to the moving, direction, and activity of the Holy Spirit.
• Relentless Compassion – Serving the community’s spiritual, economic, physical, & emotional needs.
What Do We Believe?
You might be asking how did we get this point? Great question, we believe in a very ancient form of Christianity that is both “pre-modern” in our thinking and Spirit filled in the way we act and worship.
To put it simply, we want to “think” and “do” like the Apostles thought and did in the Book of Acts. We are trying to rediscover that kind of supernatural power and reasoning.
With that said, we believe in a historical and dynamic Christian faith which confesses:
WE believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
from where He is coming to judge the living and the dead.
WE believe in the Holy Spirit,
the universal church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
How we teach this is by using the phrase “Life of the Mind and Life of the Spirit.” As a community of believers we are not afraid to ask the tough questions of the Bible, of Church History, of Reason and of our own Experience. We are a thinking church.
But at the same time we are a church that is open to the miraculous and powerful signs and wonders of the Holy Spirit. We are a doing church.
By promoting both “the Life of the Mind & the Life of the Spirit” is “Being” in the presence of God.
How Do We Worship?
The short answer is with LIFE! CLC is not boring. We have everything from contemporary music, laughter, intense teachings, a time to reflect with God at the altar and YouTube!
We do all this by working toward “orderly freedom” in worship. We have people who express themselves in worship by standing, jumping, kneeling, sitting, clapping, raising hands, shouting or in quiet reflection (just “being”). We simply ask that you worship God in a way that will not disrupt those around you. Our wish is that you simply connect and listen to God.
What about My Children?
We love our kids! That’s why we developed the “Kingdom Kidz Ministry!” It’s a safe and healthy environment for them to experience God in an age-appropriate way. Infants to Preschoolers are cared for during the entire service. Elementary aged kids are released to their classes following the music worship. Sixth grade and older remain in the main service for our “God Talk.”
In Kingdom Kidz your children will laugh, learn and will meet Jesus on a level appropriate to their age. Trained teachers will provide age-appropriate worship and prayer, theme-related snack ideas, review of the
Bible story, and hands-on activity centers to practice Bible truths.
All children’s ministries are located off the main worship area. When you show up to Kingdom Kidz you will be asked to sign your child “in and out.” Once you sign in, you will receive a name tag with a number on it. That name tag will be required to sign out your child once the service is over. All of our Kingdom Kidz workers have been prescreened with federal and local background checks.
To wrap it up, at Christian Life Church you will discover:
• A bunch of people who love to laugh!
• A multi racial, multi ethnic, multi cultural group of friends.
• A thinking and spiritual connection with God.
• The intimacy of Life Groups.
• The obedience of water baptism.
• The fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
• Weekly Singing, Teaching, and Prayer.
• The joy of discovering and serving in your area of giftedness.
• The commitment of growing in your leadership skills.
• Authentic and real friendships.
• A place for you and/or your family to grow spiritually, socially, and intellectually.
Where do I go from Here?
We recommend the following steps:
1. Finish clicking around the website especially our Staff and Ministries.
2. If you have not done so, plan to commit a month with us. Visiting only once is really not enough time to determine the “feel” of CLC.
3. Get plugged into a Life Group.
4. See our Events section on the homepage and sign up for our New Comers Breakfast.
We’re glad you scrolled through our Getting Started page so now it’s time to connect with us. Click on the Staff Page and shoot us an email.
You can also sign up here to receive our Newsletter called Alive!
Welcome to the Christian Life Experience, where we want to “Connect to your
Whole Life.”
Hope to hear from you soon.
